Downtown Red Wing teems with people on the second weekend of October, when the Red Wing Arts Association presents the Fall Festival of the Arts.

In addition to about 100 artists who set up their tents downtown, there are food booths and plenty of live music spread along Third and Bush streets.

Each year the show presents the work of regional artists selected by a jury. Paintings and photographs always are popular, along with pottery, wood carvings, glass, metal sculptures, and fabric arts including clothing, purses and hats.

The Red Wing Arts Association's tent offers fun activities for youngsters, along with arts memorabilia. Each year a poster is printed featuring a local artist's work.

In addition to food vendors on the street, Norwegian goodies are prepared and served warm at the Uffda Shop. Homemade candies, cookies and caramel apples are a tradition here, too.

For more about the show, including how to submit artwork, contact the Red Wing Arts Association, 418 Levee St., Red Wing, phone (651) 388-7569, or online www.redwingarts.org.
