Mark Schimmel, general manager of nuclear engineering for Xcel Energy since September 2008, has been named site vice president at Prairie Island nuclear plant.
Schimmel, who joined Xcel Energy’s nuclear department in February 2008, has more than 31 years of commercial nuclear power experience and has extensive knowledge in the areas of plant management, maintenance and work control at plants that have achieved world class performance.
“We are pleased to have a professional of Mark’s caliber to lead our team at Prairie Island,” said Dennis Koehl, Xcel Energy’s chief nuclear officer.
Before joining Xcel Energy, Schimmel held management positions at other nuclear power plants. Throughout his career, Schimmel has focused on improving plant performance and developing successful management teams. A native of Toledo, Ohio, Schimmel holds an engineering degree from the University of Toledo.
Schimmel succeeds Mike Wadley, who left Xcel Energy in August.
