Amateur baseball: Bears win again

Cannon Falls scored four runs in the fifth inning and Keith Meyers earned the complete game win as the Bears defeated Hanska 5-1 Friday at the Class C state tournament in Arlington, Minn. Cannon Falls has now won eight games in a row since the start of the Region 3 playoffs.

Cannon Falls scored four runs in the fifth inning and Keith Meyers earned the complete game win as the Bears defeated Hanska 5-1 Friday at the Class C state tournament in Arlington, Minn. Cannon Falls has now won eight games in a row since the start of the Region 3 playoffs.

“When you’re on a roll, you’re on a roll,” said Meyers who is also the team manager. He added, “We walk out there and feel like we can win. That’s 90 percent of it.”

Cannon Falls is back in action at 6 p.m. today against either Winsted or St. Cloud Orthopedic.

With a win it would be playing for the state championship. If the Bears lose they would play again at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Bears scored all four fifth-inning runs with two outs. It started when Rich Burr hit a single with runners on first and second. Brandon Underdahl and Taylor Pagel followed with hits of their own.

Burr, Pagel and Cory Hedeen each finished with two hits.

Cannon Falls added a run in the seventh.
