Donald W. Nelson, 73, of Aitkin, Minn., died Sunday at his residence.

Donald W. Nelson, 73, of Aitkin, Minn., died Sunday at his residence. He was born May 11, 1936, in Red Wing to August Hilmer and Laura (Breuer) Nelson. He graduated from Red Wing High School.

Don was united in marriage to Nancy (Town) on Nov. 23, 1957, in Rochester. He was employed by Northwestern Bell/US West for 37 years, retiring in 1990. He then worked five winters at Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, Mont., while at the same time building his retirement home in the summers. Don was a talented craftsman, an avid outdoorsman and an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four children: Daniel (Diane) Nelson, Faye (Chris) Ostroot, Chris (Nicki) Nelson, Eric Nelson; three grandchildren: Aaron, Alexandra, and Ian; two brothers: Norman Nelson, Gary (Janice) Nelson; one sister, Janet Warren; mother-in-law, Rose Town; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, August Hilmer and Laura (Breuer) Nelson.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the 2 p.m. Saturday funeral service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aitkin. The Rev. Cynthia Gray will officiate. Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin. www.srtfuneral.com.
