Diane Avery, 55, of Red Wing passed away peacefully at home in the loving arms of her family on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009.
Diane Marie Born was born on July 28, 1954, in Red Wing, the daughter of Marvin and Virginia (Pfingsten) Born. She was a 1972 graduate of Red Wing Central High School. Diane met Kevin Avery at the church youth group. They were united in marriage on June 27, 1975, at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
She was employed at Red Wing Shoe Co. for 18 years. Diane enjoyed boating, biking, skiing, bowling, being Grandma Porter, making memories with family and friends, and the beautiful home she shared with Kevin. Diane was a devoted wife and mother who will be cherished in our hearts always. She embodied the true meaning of wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. Her kindness and love have been felt by all who knew her.
As a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Diane was very active in the Ladies Guild and Choir. She was also involved in the Mississippi Shuffle Relay for Life and Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome.
Diane is survived by the love of her life, husband Kevin of Red Wing; sons Adam and his wife Vicky of Eagan, Minn., Andy and his wife Kelly of Red Wing, and Tyler and his wife Maeta of Red Wing; grandchildren Alexis and Payton; parents Marvin and Virginia Born of Red Wing; sister, Linda Skovbroten and her husband Paul of Rochester; brothers Jerry Born and his wife Ann and Kevin Born and his wife Deb, both of Red Wing; her loyal dog Porter; as well as countless other family and friends who loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Loren Lucht and Reverend Todd Engel officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The American Cancer Society, Fairview Red Wing Hospice, the Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota, or Caringbridge.org.
