To the Editor:

Well said, Carol Duff, thank you (R-E, Aug. 7). I especially am concerned about possible job losses at R-E and also the senior citizens of Red Wing who also have helped in making Red Wing what it is and who are often a part of the local news.

The senior community in Red Wing especially looks forward to receiving the R-E five days a week. As a good friend pointed out to me: “How will we get funeral information in time if the R-E only prints twice a week?”

I now live out of state and enjoy the R-E online. Perhaps we could get subscriptions as gifts for people who do not already have a subscription and encourage our now out-of-state family and friends to purchase an online subscription to have a little piece of “home” each day.

I feel a yearly R-E picnic to raise money would be another idea to help the paper. Another benefit to a R-E yearly picnic would be an even closer sense of community. which is also disappearing during our fast-paced times. Unfortunately, we have to fight very hard to keep a little of “yesterday.”
