You asked … about property tax refunds

I don’t have time to help my parents file their property tax return before the due date. What can I do?

Q. I don’t have time to help my parents file their property tax return before the due date. What can I do?

A. Minnesota’s 2008 property tax refund return is due by Aug. 17.

However, you have one year from the due date to file and claim the refund, according to the Minnesota Department of Revenue. If you do not file your 2008 Form M1PR by Aug. 15, 2010, you will not receive a refund.

The form and instructions are available at www.taxes.state.mn.us. The form was updated in April.
