Giorgi qualifies for state open

MINNEAPOLIS - Red Wing’s Mark Giorgi was one of 13 players at Hiawatha Golf Club on Thursday to qualify for the 2009 Minnesota State Open Championship.

Giorgi, the 2009 Class AA individual state champion, shot an even-par 73 (37-36) to tie for fifth place. He had the second best finish among amateur competitors.

The championship, which is sponsored by the Minnesota Section of the PGA of America, will be July 24 to 26 at Hastings Country Club.
