To the Editor:

The community of Red Wing will receive a wonderful gift July 4 — the transformation of Central Park.

Thanks to a generous private donation, this century-old park will be given new life with renovations designed to create a welcoming “community living room” atmosphere, with a focal point of a new band shell equipped for the needs of today’s performers.

On July 4, community members are encouraged to celebrate this gift and enjoy free live performances by world-renown entertainers. Come rain or shine, free musical performances by Phoenix Theatre, Rosanne Cash, Roomful of Blues, and the Sheldon Brass Band will begin at 3:30 p.m.

I encourage everyone to bring a blanket or chair and a cooler with beverages to sit back, relax, and enjoy the celebration. The Noontime Kiwanis Club, Downtown Mainstreet Inc., and the Fireworks Committee will have a variety of food available to purchase.

Following the performances, a fireworks display will begin just a short stroll away along the Mississippi River’s edge.

Many thanks go to the Jones Family Foundation for giving this significant gift to the community and for providing these exciting entertainers for community members! For more information about the project or the Fourth of July event, visit www.red-wing.org.
