An estimated 25,000 turkeys died Friday in a Cannon Falls-area turkey barn fire.
"It was a terrible fire," said John Peterson, who helps run the family operation. "It's really upsetting."
Peterson said he learned of the fire while he and his father Dick were in Iowa. The drive home "was a terrible combination of just being tense and sick," John Peterson said.
Wanamingo fire Chief Scott Goodman said the barn, owned by Peterson Turkey Hatchery of Cannon Falls, was a total loss.
