Breaking news: Wanamingo-area turkey barn catches fire
An estimated 25,000 turkeys died Friday in a Wanamingo-area turkey barn fire.
An estimated 25,000 turkeys died Friday in a Wanamingo-area turkey barn fire.
Wanamingo fire Chief Scott Goodman said the barn, owned by Peterson Turkey Hatchery of Cannon Falls, was a total loss. The barn is located just east of Highway 52 on County Road 1 in Leon Township.
The barn's lone occupant at the time escaped unharmed. Goodman said propane heaters at the operation appeared to be the culprit.
There were no injuries at the fire, which was reported at 2:25 p.m. Cannon Falls, Goodhue, Zumbrota and Kenyon firefighters all responded.
