Grant will help pay for new sheriff's boat

Goodhue County sheriff's officials will purchase a new pursuit patrol boat with a $47,000 grant.

Goodhue County sheriff's officials will purchase a new pursuit patrol boat with a $47,000 grant.

This year's capital plan already included $60,000 to replace the county's current 1996 patrol boat.

Officials say the new craft - about $79,100 - fits with the 800 Mhz radio project and mobile data transition. Retrofitting the old boat would be costly, sheriff's staff says.

The county will pay a portion of the cost, about $10,000 in capital funds and $3,700 from boating while intoxicated forfeiture funds.

Officials also plan on trading in the old boat and nabbing $13,500.

The $47,000 is coming from the Minnesota Federal Boating Safety Supplement Grant administered through the Department of Natural Resources.
