Trolley meanders through historic Red Wing

Red Wing Trolley Company will cut the ceremonial ribbon at 2:30 p.m. May 20, signaling the official start of the local excursion vehicle's service.

Red Wing Trolley Company will cut the ceremonial ribbon at 2:30 p.m. May 20, signaling the official start of the local excursion vehicle's service.

The Red Wing Visitors & Convention Bureau is home base for festivities. The VCB is located at 420 Levee St.

The trolley started running May 1, offering service Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through June 7 and adding Thursday service June 11. After Labor Day, the service will revert to three days through October.

The trolley runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A narrative tour lasts 45 minutes, with stops all around the community. Points of interest include the Pottery District; Sheldon Theatre, St. James Hotel and the downtown area; the riverfront, Barn Bluff and Bay Point Park; and the historic preservative district, which features civic buildings and older homes.

• The June dairy breakfast returns to Pierce County after a 10-year absence.

The Pierce County Dairy Promotion Committee, Pierce County Farm Bureau and Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board plan to hold the event June 27 at Maple Grove Dairy, rural Elmwood.

The hosts are Dave and Amy Bechel, and she serves on the organizing committee.

• Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce will hold Business After Hours on May 19 at Merchants Bank. Please note that the hours are different for this event, running 5:15 to 7 p.m.
