VFW poppies to be handed out
Members of the local VFW Post 1218 and its Post Auxiliary will be handing out poppies on the streets of Red Wing May 18 through 23. The group will be asking for small donations for local veterans programs.
Move for Life is planned Saturday
New Beginnings Pregnancy & Family Services will hold the Mother’s Day Move for Life on Saturday. Registration will be 9 to 11 a.m. at Lower A.P. Anderson Park where people will access the Cannon Valley Trail and walk, run, bike, or in-line skate. New Beginnngs will have trail passes for those who pledge at this fundraiser.
People can show up and make a donation or register in advance. People may download a pledge form at www.newbeginningspc.com or pick one up at 120 Broad St. Thrivent Financial will provide matching dollars. Anyone who raises or donates $100 will get a T-shirt.

The Buddy Poppy program has raised millions of dollars for veterans. Local group members will also be distributing Buddy Poppy cards and collection cans to various locations around town.
‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive set for Saturday
The “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive conducted each year by union workers at Red Wing Post Office will be held Saturday. People are encouraged to put out non-perishable foods near their mailboxes before the carrier comes; donations will be picked up and taken to the local food shelf.
Kiwanis fundraiser scheduled May 17
The Kiwanis breakfast fundraiser will be from 8 a.m. to noon May 17 in the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center dining aea.
Cost will be $7 at the door for adults ($6 in advance), $3 for kids 4 and up or $20 for a family.
