May meeting rescheduled

The Red Wing City Council rescheduled its regular May 25 meeting to May 27 in order to observe Memorial Day.

City lowers retainer by $4,400

Red Wing city officials and the law firm of Madigan, Dahl and Harlan, P.A., agreed to reduce payment for a legal retainer previously approved by the council.

In March, Red Wing hired attorney Tom Harlan from Madigan, Dahl and Harlan to provide legal services for an amount not to exceed $71,500. That cap has been reduced to $67,000.

Harlan will represent the city at state hearings regarding Xcel Energy’s bid to ramp up operations at the Prairie Island nuclear power plant.

Meeting watch

Monday’s council meeting lasted over 2 1/2 hours. All council members were present. The meeting ended in a closed session at which the council discussed legal strategy with attorney Tom Harlan.
