The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office is investigating an 11-year-old girl's report she was sexually assaulted last week outside the Kenyon-Wanamingo elementary school.
The girl told investigators she was assaulted by two white males, described as being 15 to 17 years old and about 5 feet, 6 inches tall. The assault occurred between 5 and 6 p.m. April 9 on the building's south side near the playground, according to a news release.
The sheriff's department received the report on Tuesday.
The alleged victim did not know the suspects, Goodhue County Sheriff Dean Albers said.
One male reportedly had collar-length blonde hair — wavy at the ends — and was wearing a yellow and black mixed color sweatshirt and jeans. The other had short brown hair and was wearing a black baseball cap, black baggy jeans and a black sweatshirt, the girl reported.
The suspects allegedly displayed a knife. The girl said she was groped, pushed into a wall and hit in the head with a fist.
The K-W School District is coordinating efforts of notifying staff and students.
Albers said he has not placed extra patrols in the area as a result of the incident.
"We think it's isolated," he said. "We don't think it's a predator-type thing."
Albers said investigators are compiling a suspect list and conducting interviews.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff's office at (651) 385-3155 or a tip line at (866) 887-4357.
