The Red Wing School District Music Department will present the seventh-grade, eighth-grade, and high school jazz bands in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in Hovda Auditorium at Red Wing High School.
The seventh-grade jazz band will open the concert. Songs to be performed include: “C Jam Blues,” “I Get Around” made famous by the Beach Boys, “Baggy Pants Blues,” and the rock ‘n’ roll classic “Secret Agent Man.”
The eighth-grade jazz band will perform the R & B standard “Green Onions,” “Evil Ways” made famous by Carlos Santana, “Somewhere Out There” from the movie “An American Tail,” and a swing chart titled “One for the Mooch.”
The high school students will play the second half of the concert. This is the first year the district has two jazz bands at the high school. Their selections will include a great variety of swing, Latin, rock and ballads.
Many soloists will be featured throughout the evening. All three bands are voluntary and meet before school. They are directed by Dan Marrs, Ken Roberts, and Milt Hovelson.
The concert is free.
