Harley E. Anderson, 86, of Lake City, passed away March 15, 2009, at the Lake City Nursing Home.

Harley was born May 19, 1922, in Lake City, Minn., to Niles E. and Alvina (Fuhrman) Anderson. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1941.
@death of veteran: Harley was drafted into the Army Nov. 16, 1942, he served during World War II. He was stationed in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters of war. He was discharged Feb. 7, 1946. Harley returned to Lake City and worked for the City of Lake City as a meter reader until retiring. He was a life member of the Lake City VFW Post 8729 and Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City. He enjoyed watching the Twins Baseball games and traveling.
@Normal: Harley is survived by a sister, Betty Slauson of Lake City; three half-nephews, John Pilger of Atlanta, Ga., Don Pilger of St. Paul, Minn., John Halpaus of Red Wing; one half-niece, Nancy Blackard of Pinon Hill, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; a half-brother, John Halpaus Sr. and two half-sisters, Ida Pilger and Hazel Key.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City, with the Rev. Bruce Stam officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be by Lake City VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110.
