Hazel Irene Westberg, 96, of Pepin, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Pepin Manor in Pepin, Wis.

Hazel Irene Westberg, 96, of Pepin, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Pepin Manor in Pepin, Wis. She was born Dec. 23, 1912, in Stockholm Township, Pepin County, Wis.; daughter of Gustave Adolph and Pauline Norlie Johnson. She attended the Pleasant Corner School. After her schooling, Hazel helped at home.

On Nov. 16, 1933, Hazel married Milton Leonard Westberg in Red Wing, Minn. They lived in Red Wing for a year before moving to a farm in Pepin Township. Later they moved to her parents' farm in Stockholm Township, which they purchased and farmed the rest of their married life. Milton died Nov. 30, 1962.

In 1968, Hazel moved to Pepin. She worked at Parkview Nursing Home and Sass Nursing Home for 10 years. She was manager for Pepin Nutrition Site for six years. She also served on the Pleasant School Board for 13 years. Hazel retired in 1983.

Hazel loved to bake cookies, cakes and bread. She also loved to entertain family and friends. She made piece quilts, did a lot of sewing, enjoyed reading, gardening and growing flowers.

Hazel was a member of the Calvary Covenant Church and the Calvary Covenant Church Women.

Survived by daughters Janice (Donald) Ingalls of Pepin, Wis., Ardyce Johnson of Pepin, Wis., LuAnn (Mitchell) Klein of Scottsdale, Ariz.; son Larry (Kathleen) Westberg of Pepin, Wis.; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, Gustave Adolph and Pauline Norlie Johnson; husband, Milton Westberg; grandson Alan Milton Johnson; great-granddaughter Taylor Mae Johnson; sisters Florence Johnson, Mabel Johnson and Lorene Edlin; brothers Roy, Wallace and Wilford Johnson; son-in-law Arnold "Jim" Johnson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Calvary Covenant Church in Stockholm with Pastor Roger Mollet officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery at a later date. Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand is assisting the family.
