Crossings at Carnegie

Lindsay Mac performs at Crossings at Carnegie, Zumbrota. She’s a musician who straps her cello to her body, and strums and plucks it like a guitar while singing. Reviewers have joked about “a classical education gone horribly wrong,” but gone on to praise her skills as a genre-expanding performer.

She will be sharing the stage with Mona Tavakoli on cajon, percussion and background vocals, and Jason Petrin on guitar.

‘12 Dreams’

The 16th annual Grumpy Old Men Festival takes place today in Wabasha. Hobgoblin Music

Tangled Roots performs bluegrass in the Music Loft at Hobgoblin. In conjunction with the show, Brian Wicklund is offering a fiddle workshop. Tangled Roots has been performing for over half a decade throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, Michigan and Wisconsin.

The group performs a broad spectrum of material ranging from songs and tunes by Bill Monroe and Elvis Presley to more recent songs penned by Bruce Hornsby, John Prine and Bruce Cockburn. The members consist of some of the best known bluegrass performers in the upper Midwest.

Garth Brooks tribute

“The World According to Garth,” a tribute to the now-retired country music superstar, will be staged at the State Theatre in Zumbrota.

Christopher Seebeck, who created the Garth Brooks tribute show, said, “I think his music needs to be played for all the fans who miss him.” Joining him on stage will be several musicians, including Ric Oliva, guitar; Mike Schultz, guitar, piano; Mandy Maietta, piano, vocals; Ed Kelcher, steel guitar, banjo, vocals; Brian Rygwall. fiddle, guitar, vocals; Tom Barret., bass guitar, vocals; and Dan Luedke, drums, percussion.

Seebeck also is employing a state-of-the-art light and visual effects company to provide elements of Brooks’ stage shows including rain, thunder, lightning and fire.

CVRO concert

The Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Paul Niemisto, will perform at the Paradise Center for the Arts in Faribault, Minn. The orchestra consists of amateur musicians from throughout the area, including Red Wing.

Titled “Finland Memories,” the concert will present both traditional and more modern music. Featured soloist will be Dr. Jun Qian on clarinet.

The program will include contemporary composer Einojuhani Rautavaara’s “Cantus Arcticus — Concerto for Birds and Orchestra,” which combines field recordings of the spring bird migration to Lapland with orchestral instruments.
