Pine Island crash victim identified

The 19-year-old Pine Island man killed Saturday in a one-vehicle crash has been identified as Justin Riess.

Riess was ejected from a vehicle driven by Brenton Sather, 19, of Pine Island. Sather lost control of the vehicle and it rolled just before 8:30 a.m. on Highway 52 near Pine Island, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Riess was not wearing his seat belt and was found dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Sather was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester where he was treated and released Monday morning, according to hospital officials. He was wearing a seat belt.

Authorities said the highway was icy at the time of the crash. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor.
