Carlos Mencia, star of Comedy Central’s “Mind of Mencia,” will perform at 8 p.m. Jan. 10 in the Event Center at Treasure Island Resort & Casino.
The standup comedian’s adult show is often political and frequently involves issues of race, culture and social class. Mencia is considered one of today’s” most revered entertainers and feared comics,” spokesmen said.
“Whether it is man-on-the-street interviews, studio comedy, commercial parodies, or nationwide sold-out tours, Mencia demonstrates an extraordinary ability to connect with a diverse audience and hold nothing back,” they added.
Mencia released a comedy album in 2000 called “Take a Joke, America” that showcased his brand of confrontational humor.
After the success of his solo DVD, “Carlos Mencia: Not for the Easily Offended,” work began on “Mind of Mencia,” which was an instant hit in early 2005. He has continued to develop new specials and to appear in other projects.
In summer of 2007 he starred opposite Ben Stiller and Michelle Monaghan in the Farrelly Brothers’ hit feature film, “The Heartbreak Kid.” That fall he went on another nationwide tour, and in December Mencia embarked on his first USO Tour to the Persian Gulf, where he entertained the troops.
He recently returned from his second trip to Kuwait after hosting “Operation Myspace,” an exclusive concert for American troops in the Middle East alongside Jessica Simpson and The Pussycat Dolls. The special aired on FX in April 2008.
Tickets are $40 to $70. Call (800) 222-7077.
