GOODHUE -- Building a new store front in the midst of a recession may sound like risky business to most small business owners, but Russ Ryan and Pete Poncelet, owners of Goodhue Country Station, don't seem worried.
"We have been in business for seven years because our focus is on serving the community," Ryan said. "We have a loyal customer base and we work hard to provide service and products to meet their needs."
Ryan said the new building was needed because the old store was too small and in need of extensive repairs and remodeling.
With 3960 square feet of space, the new building has allowed Country Station to expand the kitchen, provide better service and offer a wider variety of products, he added.
"We've also added a second till and more gas pumps for faster service," Ryan said.
"It's bigger and better," customer Keith Asleson said. "They have everything they had before, with more options and variety."
New items include fresh fruit, salads, wraps and a wider selection of groceries.
"We will also continue to add to our already full deli selection," Ryan said.
"It's not about us," he said. "It's about our customers."
