The Sheldon Theatre's new strategic plan won't be sitting on anybody's shelf.

The document, condensed into four pages of goals, outlines clearly defined actions and indicates whether those actions are, in fact, leading toward those goals.

"It's mostly a working document. … It's simple, but challenging," said Sean Dowse, the Sheldon's executive director. "We want to make things happen."

The plan, in the works since February, has been adopted by the Sheldon Auditorium Board. It was presented to the City Council Monday night.

The company Creation in Common led the effort, gathering information from all sectors of the community to find out what people are looking for and what they want the Sheldon to do.

"We feel we heard from a really good cross-section of Red Wing," Dowse said.

That input was blended with directives from the Sheldon Board, which chose to retain the mission and values statement which has guided trustees in the past.

The plan is divided into six milestones, each with a set of actions. Key milestones include increasing use of the Internet, cooperating with downtown, developing more partnerships, creating a new festival, building financial stability, and working closely with Friends of the Sheldon.
