Violette J. Haessig Huettl, 91, of Lake City, died Friday at the Lake City Nursing Home.
Violette J. Haessig Huettl, 91, of Lake City, died Friday at the Lake City Nursing Home. Born Jan. 10, 1917, in rural Zumbro Falls to Richard H. and Johanna M. (Klindworth) Gerken, she attended school in Zumbro Falls and graduated from Mazeppa High School. She worked at the Silver Sail, Terrace Supper Club and Selck Clothing Store. In 1932 she married Guy V. Haessig at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. He died in 1967. In 1972 she married James M. Huettl in Lake City. He died in 2003.
She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lake City, and its Ladies Aid. She also was a member of Lake City Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Lake City Country Club. She had been a Camp Fire Girls leader. She enjoyed fishing and golfing, playing cards and crafts.
Survivors include two daughters, Carole Mutzebaugh (John Bieg) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Judy (Morris) Platte of Lake City; a son, John (Sally) Haessig of Stevens Point, Wis; two stepsons, H. James (Cheryl) Huettl of Lake City and Michael (Cathy) Huettl of Eau Claire, Wis; 11 grandchildren, 21-great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard J. (Eleanor) Gerken of Zumbro Falls. She was preceded in death by her husbands and a sister, Dorothea Springer of Millville, Minn.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with the Rev. Dennis Valleau officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to The Friends of the Lake City Library. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City, handled arrangements.
