Phoenix Theatre presents Miracle on 34th Street

RED WING – Phoenix Theatre is proud to present Miracle on 34th Street at the Sheldon Theatre from Wednesday, December 10 through Saturday, December 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults and $10 for students. Wednesday night is the preview and tickets are half-off that night.

Doris Walker, an employee of Macy’s Department Store on 34th Street in New York, hires a man named Kris Kringle to play Santa. She becomes upset, however, when a neighbor, Fred Gayley, brings her young and much-too-serious daughter, Susan, to the store to see this jolly Santa. After all, her daughter doesn’t need to believe in this fantasy. When Doris calls in Kris Kringle to prove to Susan he is just playing a role, he staunchly states he really is Santa!

And his goodwill is infectious. As Macy’s Santa, he recommends customers shop at other stores for better bargains, and far from being a marketing disaster, his advice turns into the best public relations campaign ever. Benevolence spreads over the city, even into the Walker household where Kris helps young Susan to use her imagination and play make-believe like other children.

She confides in him, however, her single Christmas wish is a real house with a real back yard. In fact, she’ll believe he is Santa ONLY if he brings her that gift.

How he proves he is the “one and only Santa” in the courtroom as well as to young Susan and her mother makes this the most heartwarming play you’ll ever see.
