Betty Mae Alice Hanson, 79, of Red Wing, died Friday at Potter Ridge Assisted Living in Red Wing.

Betty Mae Alice Hanson, 79, of Red Wing, died Friday at Potter Ridge Assisted Living in Red Wing. Born Aug. 18, 1929, in Buffalo County, Wis., to Harley and Violet (Worley) Golden, she graduated from Durand High School, received a teaching certificate from Alma Normal School, and earned her master's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. On July 28, 1951, she married Boyd Hanson at First Methodist Church in Durand. They lived in Wisconsin until 1963 when they moved to Red Wing. She taught three years in Wisconsin schools and 25 years in Red Wing. He died Oct. 6, 1993. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Red Wing, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her two daughters, Belinda (Bruce) Robinson of Bloomington, Ill., and Beverly of Rochester; two sons, Brian (Annie) Hanson of Richfield, Minn., and Barry (Cindy) Hanson of Hastings; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Howard (Dorothy) Golden of Brookings, S.D. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lund Covenant Church with the Rev. Greg Satterberg officiating. Burial will be in the Marie Lund Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to cardiovascular research at the Mayo Clinic.
