Jane Elsie Schmidt, 58, of Ellsworth, died suddenly Saturday at her home.

Jane Elsie Schmidt, 58, of Ellsworth, died suddenly Saturday at her home. Born Nov. 19, 1949, in Red Wing, the daughter of George and Elsie (Bartlett) Nelson, she was a graduate of Ellsworth High School and District One Technical College. She married Jerry Schmidt on Oct. 5, 1968, at English Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.

She stayed home to raise her family. After the kids finished school she went to work as a legal secretary for an attorney in River Falls. She later worked in the activities department at the Ellsworth Care Center and most recently was employed at Curves in Ellsworth. She enjoyed traveling, baking and gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry of Ellsworth; son, Jason (Kim) Schmidt, Woodville, Wis.; daughter, Heidi (Mark) Huppert of Roberts, Wis.; three grandchildren; two brothers, James Nelson of Boardman, Wis., and Robert (Penny) Nelson of Ellsworth; and one sister, Ann Dusek of River Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ruth McWain and her brother in-law Dave McWain.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at English Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with the Rev. Terry Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ellsworth. Pallbearers will be Bill, Mike, Tim, Jim and Nathan Nelson, and Jim Schmidt. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hill Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
