Red Wing School Board members may have to update policy in response to new laws governing drivers who transport students.
All district drivers transporting students must have passed a Department of Transportation physical, received training and made a vehicle checklist to comply with recently passed legislation. Violators could face a citation.
The district has been shouldering the cost of physicals for drivers whose insurance does not cover the cost.
Supt. Stan Slessor said it's likely the law will be changed this legislative session, though local officials are considering a policy update if it remains.
Slessor said it is difficult to argue against safety, but the law "is a major headache right now."
"But there comes a point, where you say, 'Can't we make some modifications for reasonableness?'" he said.
