Eleven professional artists and friends who get together monthly to encourage, critique and challenge each other are showing their work through Nov. 22 at the Red Wing Arts Association’s Depot Gallery. A reception for the artists will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at the depot.

“The Road Less Traveled” is theme for the exhibit, which fills both the Veeder and Vogel galleries. Members of the group were challenged to offer their interpretations of the poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost.

Regional artists in the group known as “The Critical Thumb” have spent their careers painting and teaching, according to Red Wing member Dan Wiemer.

All of them work primarily in water media.

They met through connections in the Minnesota Watercolor Society. Five members of this group are past presidents of the state organization. Wiemer, one of those past presidents, said it was exciting to be able to bring together the collective talents of the select group for a Red Wing showing.

The other artists are Nancy Carney, Keith Donaldson, Andy Evansen, Jeannie Larson, Judy Lieber, Karen Knutson, Mary Sue Krueger, David Rickert, Pat Undis and Gail Speckmann.
