School district reading, writing to be addressed

Red Wing school leaders are training their attention on reading and writing.

School administrators will be working to align curriculum with state testing standards, Curriculum Director Kathy Radmer told Red Wing School Board members Monday. The alignment process is in response to low marks among some student subgroups in 2008 reading tests.

The process is similar to what school officials began last year following low math scores.

"That paid off, as we saw with our test scores," Radmer said of this year's math results.

Parent involvement and intervention programs will be highlighted this year. Radmer said language comprehension and literature will also be stressed.
