Letter: Recycle the fee

I saw an article in the Red Wing newspaper where the city is going to spend about $4 million so metal and glass can be separated from garbage at incinerator (R-E, Aug. 26).
Some years ago the city of Red Wing told residents to do this from our own garbage. I do this every week and also pay $4 per month for doing that. Now, I see that the residents will be charged an additional $3.27 per month for doing recycling from garbage at the incinerator.
To me this is very unfair — that one has to pay an additional $3.27 for work we have already done at our residence. I also want to note that residential garbage and recycling services are cheaper in Goodhue and Lake City even though the residential garbage is hauled quite a distance to the Red Wing incinerator.
