Letter: School vote is for us all
Please vote yes and yes Sept. 9.By: June Woitas Rodgers, Red Wing, The Republican Eagle
To the Editor:
Please vote yes and yes Sept. 9. If the only reason you are planning to vote no on the school referendum is money, please consider the many the reasons to vote yes and yes.
As a working parent with a family of five, I truly understand the reality of living within your means, and it is imperative that leaders be fiscally responsible.
I believe our district has done as much as it can to stay within the budget, but the reality is the way education is funded in Minnesota is not working. This must be changed at the legislative level. It is glaringly obvious this is a statewide problem when 90 percent of districts need referendums to meet basic educational needs.
Education is the absolute foundation of strong, healthy communities. You don’t need to be a parent or grandparent to see the benefits of a good school system. Everyone in the community benefits from education, especially local businesses, and everyone in the community will experience the devastating effects if this referendum fails. Check www.voteyesandyes.org and vote for our community.
