Letter: Franken, forget lifetime health care for veterans

Al Franken has proposed free health care for all veterans. He says he doesn't know the cost or how he'd pay for it.

To the Editor:

Al Franken has proposed free health care for all veterans. He says he doesn't know the cost or how he'd pay for it.

Disabled and poor veterans already get government care, as they should, so he isn't talking about them. When I served four years in time of war, it never occurred to me that I earned anything for my service other than maybe a simple thank you. It was an obligation and a duty.

As I look around Red Wing, I see no one I would go up to and say "I can afford my own, but how about you and your neighbors paying for my health care for the rest of my life?"

So, no thanks, Al. I'm just fine.
