To the Editor:
I am extremely happy to support of Dale Mehrkens for Ward 2, City Council of Red Wing. He and his extended family have been friends of our family for many years.
When you step into the ballot booth we should all ask ourselves a couple of questions as to why we are there. The first one:Do I trust the one I plan to vote for?
I trust Mehrkens because he is my friend, my former co-worker at the Goodhue County National Bank, my buddy in countless civic duties including the Chamber of Commerce and we were on the same team of charter members of the ambassadors (originally called Bluff Warmers).
The second question: Does this person have the experience, the know-how to carry on his duties as an elected official?
If you have read the news clippings about Mehrkens, you know that he was on the City Council from 1975 to 1978. We are fortunate to have Mehrkens as one of our candidates. His service as a councilmen was above reproach. This is truly where experience counts.
Plus, he has lived here, worked here, raised a family here; he knows Red Wing and his years of banking gives him an unequaled level of fiscal responsibility. Mehrkens is retired and has no special interest to hinder his opinions and decisions.
There may be other questions in your own mind, but when you get answers, I hope you will join me in voting for Dale Mehrkens for City Council on Tuesday.
