ROCHESTER — Red Wing’s Jesse Nelson finished first among 259 competitors Sunday in the first Rochesterfest Triathlon.

The Wingers’ cross-country and girls track and field coach finished the sprint course — 1/4-mile swim, 10-mile bike and 5K run — in 54 minutes, nine seconds. Mario Minelli of Kasson, Minn., finished second in 56:00.

Numerous other local competitors finished, as well. Ellsworth’s Kylie Bjorkman (82nd place, 1:13:40) and Macy Olson (134th, 1:19:01) finished, along with Welch’s Chuck Connelly (109th, 1:16:39) and Mazeppa’s Brent Scharpman (171st, 1:23:53) and Beth Scharpman (218th, 1:32:31). Bjorkman, 16, and Olson, 17, were the only two teenagers to compete. Goodhue’s Shauna Luhman finished 250th in 1:47:51.

Six others competed from Red Wing: Christopher Marshall (67th, 1:11:47), Cathleen Fangman (132nd, 1:18:59), Julie Quinn-Autrey (167th, 1:23:23), Jen Sarna (195th, 1:27:02), Christy Rikli (232nd, 1:36:20) and Pam Roe (240th, 1:39:01).
