Fusion Dance presents ballet

An original ballet will be performed Saturday by students of Fusion Dance. The 2 p.m. matinee is in addition to two evening performances the students will present at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Hovda Hall at Red Wing High School.

An original ballet will be performed Saturday by students of Fusion Dance. The 2 p.m. matinee is in addition to two evening performances the students will present at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Hovda Hall at Red Wing High School.

The annual performance will feature nearly 170 area dancers from 11 local communities. The showcase, titled “Can! Can! You Dance?” will open with a “Can Can” by 24 competition students who captured first-place honors in every competition. A second routine with more dancers will conclude the show.

The performance will feature 39 dances by soloists and groups. A special feature is the annual father/ daughter production number.

The Saturday matinee will showcase a ballet written by Maria Boscaino that is based on the 17th century romantic ballet “Giselle.” The student interpretation is titled “Giselle: The Following Day.”

Admission to the evening performances is $14; tickets are available in advance at the studio or at the door. Student rush tickets will be sold for $7 starting 15 minutes before the show. Cost to attend the ballet is $5 or a donation to the food shelf.
