Vernon Leroy Berg, 68, Wanamingo, died Saturday at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Vernon Leroy Berg, 68, Wanamingo, died Saturday at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Born Aug. 14, 1939, in Cherry Grove Township, to Melvin and Luella (Hjortaas) Berg, he grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1957. He worked for Haugen Hatchery in Wanamingo for a short time. He started working for Waters Instruments in Rochester and worked there for over 30 years. On June 10, 1967, he married Jeanne Peterson at Spring Garden Lutheran Church in rural Cannon Falls. They made their home in Wanamingo. He retired from Foldcraft in Kenyon in 2003.

He served in the National Guard and was a lifelong member of Lands Lutheran Church. He was a longtime member of the Wanamingo Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and reading.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; one daughter, Angie (Travis) Wibben of New Hartford, Iowa; one son, Aaron (Jessica) of Zumbrota; four grandchildren; four sisters, Eileen Anderson of Red Wing, Donna (Ronald) Amundson of Wanamingo, Lila (Walter) Johnson of Red Wing, and Judy (Craig) Grudem of Zumbrota; and three brothers, Duane (Alice) of Wanamingo, Larry (Sue) of McGregor, Minn., and Rueben (Brenda) of Wanamingo. He was preceded in death by two infant daughters; one brother, Marlan; and one sister, Yvonne Hinsch.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with the Rev. David Krinke officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mahn Family Funeral home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. The family suggests memorials to donor's choice.
