Mike Hall announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election this fall for his Red Wing City Council seat.
The reason, said Red Wing’s representative for Ward 3 and 4, is he plans to retire from the Prairie Island nuclear plant in two years and spend part of the year “some place warmer.”
Hall, who has served on the council for more than 10 years in multiple stints, said it wouldn’t be fair to taxpayers to only complete part of a term. Council members are elected to four-year terms.
He added that he is not tired of working on the council, but rather the opposite.
“I love doing this job,” he said. “Just being on the City Council has been a very rewarding experience.”
During Tuesday’s council meeting, he encouraged others to step up and fill his role.
“I know there’s people out there who can step in, and they’ll do a great job,” he said.
