To the Editor:
In response to a letter in the R-E May 14, Congressman John Kline has done an excellent job representing our 2nd District.
In the last two years, he has voted Republican 93.1 percent of the time. Conservatives elected Kline to Congress, not the Pelosi camp. Appeasing the minority of the population isn’t representing our district.
Steve Sarvi symbolizes the angry far left disguised as moderates. Much how like Tim Walz came to be. Before we “Change Course” from our current direction, let’s look at where Sarvi wants to take us.
In 2007, Congress passed the Hate Crimes Legislation. Among other things, this would bar pastors their free speech at the pulpit. If one of their sermons mentioned that homosexuality was wrong, the pastor could potentially be thrown into jail for bigotry to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual community.
Thankfully, President Bush vetoed this. Sarvi would support such legislation allowing pastors to be jailed for preaching from the bible.
Kline also knows the only way to solve our oil problem is to drill at home. Sarvi’s plan of increasing overseas production only benefits terrorist nations’ economies. Also, using corn for fuel drives up the price of food, and more people starve. The United States has millions of barrels of oil, enough to support itself for 60 years.
Kline has voted to protect our borders time and again. He has funded our troops with equipment and technology needed to fight a war. Fighting a war is a costly investment, but winning is the only acceptable outcome for the war.
Sarvi has said he’d vote to end the war and that would balance our national budget. However, his proven failed universal health care plan triples the cost of the Iraq war.
Kline also will continue defend the life of the unborn, keep taxes low, provide for the elderly and Veterans, and guarantee our right own firearms. These are values important to our 2nd District. I believe that is worth sending Kline back to Washington for two years.
