Twelve EHS wrestlers place in Cheesehead Invitational

Ellsworth High School's wrestling team had 12 of its wrestlers receive places in the top 22 of the Cheesehead Invitational meet this weekend.

KAUKAUNA - Ellsworth High School's wrestling team had 12 of its wrestlers receive places in the top 22 of the Cheesehead Invitational meet this weekend.

The highest place went to Gabe Frandsen at 170 pounds, finishing third. Frandsen made it to the semifinals but lost by a 13-3 major decision to Dylan Blackford of Southeast Polk County High School of Iowa, which won the team title. But Frandsen came back to win his next two matches, a 3-1 decision over Jordan Pardowsky of Luxemburg-Casco and then a 6-5 decision over Josh Meins of Port Wwashington.

Also placing for Ellsworth were Hunter Peipenburg at 106, 22nd; Jens Lantz at 120, sixth; Riley Melstrom at 126, 21st; Brad Cain at 132, 16th; Tristan Mueller at 138, eighth; Josh Hines at 152; 22nd; Max Peterson at 160; 17th; Hank Holdorf at 182, 21st; Jake Murphy at 195, 12th; Brady Zimmer at 220, 20th and Brody Kemmerer at heavyweight, 14th.

Ellsworth will be back in action with pair back-to-back Middle Border Conference dual meets this week, at home vs. Prescott on Thursday and at Osceola Friday.
