From now until June 1 law enforcement officers in Goodhue County and around the state will be cracking down on motorists’ seat belt use.
The state’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign includes 400 agencies participating statewide, including the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, Red Wing police and Cannon Falls police. Law enforcement officials say the campaign is a pre-emptive strike in hopes of heightening motorists’ awareness during the summer — Minnesota’s deadliest driving season.
“Unbelted traffic deaths and serious injuries impact every community in the state, including ours,” Goodhue County Major Lyle Sorenson said.
According to state data, unbelted motorists account for more than half of all vehicle-occupant deaths each year.
