Alois Joseph “Al” Machnik, 92, Red Wing, died Sunday at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park.
Alois Joseph “Al” Machnik, 92, Red Wing, died Sunday at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. He was born July 25, 1915, in Milwaukee, the son of Joseph and Constance (Kalles) Machnik. He attended school in Milwaukee and then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in the Medical Corps and was discharged in 1945. He married Charlotte Janczak on May 28, 1938, in Milwaukee. He was a police officer in Milwaukee from 1946 until his retirement in 1974.
Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Red Wing. He worked at Loons and Ladyslippers and as a custodian for several years. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed fishing, mechanics and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; one son, James (Mary Lee) Machnik of Red Wing; one daughter, Virginia (John) Herr of Brookfield, Wis.; three granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Alexander's Church in Milwaukee. Burial will be in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Milwaukee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Local arrangements are handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
