To the Editor:
I grew up in Red Wing and have very strong feelings for this beautiful city.
Now I live in western Oregon in one of the greatest wine producing areas in the country. There are over 50 wineries of all sizes within an easy driving distance of my home. Each one is unique and wonderful to visit and some are every bit as beautiful as parks and gardens.
We see families at the wineries learning about grape growing/wine producing and sharing picnics. The wineries provide grape juice for minors and designated drivers.
In all the years I’ve lived in Oregon, I have never heard of an accident caused by someone who had been wine tasting. I’m writing in reference to a letter from Marie Poloson (R-E, April 30) and wonder if she has ever seen hillsides covered with grapevines or been inside a winery to talk with wine makers or attend family functions.
A beautiful, well-run winery would be a perfect entrance for visitors and tourists as they arrive to spend time in Red Wing - some because
a winery existed there.
