READS LANDING — The Zumbro Valley Jail Cell will be the topic of a public program from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Reads School museum.

Featured at the Wabasha County Historical Society program will be Emery Henn, a professional auctioneer, storyteller and humorist from Lake City. He will share memories about the jail cell, which now makes its home on the museum campus just outside the Reads Landing School building.

The fact that visitors have raised numerous questions about its origins prompted the board of directors to make it the subject of a public presentation.

Henn will talk about witnessing many local and area citizens take temporary residence in the cell after spending a rousing Saturday night in Zumbro Falls. As a small boy, he remembers that his grandfather — who ran the Shell gas station located next to the jail — would assist rowdy young men into the four-person cell.

The event is free to members and $5 at the door for visitors. For more information, call (877) 525-3248.
