Red Wing school jazz bands to present ‘A Night of Jazz’

Red Wing school music departments will present seventh- and eighth-grade and high school jazz bands in a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at Red Wing High School.

Red Wing school music departments will present seventh- and eighth-grade and high school jazz bands in a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at Red Wing High School. The concert in Hovda Auditorium will feature swing, Latin, rock and other styles of music.

The seventh-grade jazz band will open the concert with “In the Zone,” “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “Fly Me to the Moon” and “James Bond Theme.”

The eighth-graders will perform “Oye Como Va,” “Summer Nights” from “Grease,” a swing chart titled “Watch It Now!” and “Malaguena.”

The high school jazz band rounds will out the program with “Birdland,” “Green Onions” and “Blue Trane.”

Numerous soloists will be featured throughout the evening. The bands are directed by Dan Marrs, Ken Roberts and Milt Hovelson.
