Letter: Cartoon exploits children’s deaths

To the Editor:
We don’t look to Craig Livingstone for wit, subtlety, imagination, or insight on any topic, but Tuesday’s cartoon was beyond the pale. There are plenty of honest and decent arguments to be made about immigration: Would using one of them have violated Livingstone’s style?
Instead, he chose to illustrate a mindless slur — or are we really meant to believe we’re more likely to get run down by an undocumented foreigner than by a garden-variety, home-grown drunk?
To exploit children’s deaths to make such a “point” is despicable.
We believe the R-E owes its readers an apology.
