Hearing set to consider releasing suspect’s prints
Officials must wait until later this month to learn whether a Red Wing murder suspect’s palm prints will be turned over to state investigators. A public defender for Marvin Todd Griffith on Friday told the court he wants a Feb. 29 hearing to determine whether the suspect must supply hand prints for evidence. Prosecutors say Griffith, 19, was the gunman in the Jan. 20 shooting death of Luis Orlando Galicia Mijangos, who was killed in Red Wing. Two other Red Wing teens, Julian Smith, 16, and William Lawton, 19, also face murder charges in the case; their attorneys granted the state access to their palm prints this week in court. Goodhue County Attorney Stephen Betcher said the state’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension requested the prints after discovering suspicious prints on top of the vehicle Mijangos was inside during the shooting.
