Fair hopes to avoid washout today

Except for Thursday's brief storm, the 129th Pierce County Fair has benefited from beautiful late summer weather this weekend. Now the fair has to keeps its fingers crossed it won't get washed out by rain on Sunday.

Except for Thursday's brief storm, the 129th Pierce County Fair has benefited from beautiful late summer weather this weekend. Now the fair has to keeps its fingers crossed it won't get washed out by rain on Sunday.

Weather forecasts call for a 50 percent of showers throughout the day.

Sunday is Veterans Day which means all U.S. military veterans get into the fairgrounds in Ellsworth for free. There will be a veterans ceremony at noon in the picnic shelter.

Also, from 12-5 p.m., persons can can get a wristband to ride on all of the rides for $18 except the bumper cars & gravity storm.

Also on Sunday is the truck pull and Gopher State Lawn Tractor Pull at the Grandstand beginning at noon. The Midway Trivia game will take place throughout the afternoon at the Picnic Shelter and Nick Datillo will give a musical tribute to Buddy Holly at 1 and 3 p.m. in the picnic shelter as well.

Saturday saw more big crowds at the fair, especially for the Ellsworth Funsters Demolition Derby. Victor Peterson captured another derby win by winning the stock full-sized class.

The fair officially closes for another season at 5 p.m.
