Advocate training scheduled

Goodhue Wabasha Sexual Assault Services plans sexual assault advocate training starting Jan. 28. The advocate training is designed for those interested in working with sexual assault survivors, but will provide information to any service provider, community member or concerned citizen.

The following topics will be covered during the training: definition and history of sexual violence, myths and facts of sexual violence, types of sexual violence including sexual harassment and stalking, crisis intervention, role and definition of an advocate, dynamics of victimization, crime victims rights, legal and medical protocol, cultural awareness, oppression, sex offenders, local policies and procedures.

Training is open to anyone living in Goodhue or Wabasha County and is free. To register, call (651) 565-0189 in Wabasha or (651) 388-9360, ext. 15, in Red Wing.
